Welcome

Longley School
Our school is situated on the outskirts of Huddersfield in a private woodland setting and takes pupils from the town centre and the immediate surrounding areas in Kirklees.
Longley is a maintained special school, which caters for the needs of pupils with complex learning needs in the age range 5 – 16. All our pupils have been 'statemented' under the requirements of the 1993 Education Act. This means that every pupil has specific learning needs, which have to be met by the school. We accommodate pupils with a variety of learning, physical, social and behavioural difficulties or disabilities.
We have excellent provision for children on the autistic spectrum and at present have 5 ASD specific classes.
Every pupil has full access to the 'whole curriculum' provided by the school and receives carefully structured lessons, which are taught by experienced teachers in small group settings. In this way we give pupils, who have need of carefully controlled and graded learning programmes, the help and support they need. This is enhanced by the high level of support given by the schools experienced Education Teaching Assistants. We also have a welfare department in school to help and support parents and children in their pastoral needs.
The school has two minibuses and we provide for a range of activities that may include educational visits, sports and some form of residential experience.
It is the Governors and my intention to keep improving the grounds, educational facilities and the fabric of the school buildings every year. Our long-term vision for the school is to provide a quality education for all pupils and actively involve parents in this process.
Longley belongs to several pyramids or families of mainstream schools and takes an active interest in, and participates with, the greater learning community.
We hope that you will consider Longley for the future education of your child.
